Six games during Round 6, and surprisingly the two matches decided by single-figure margins having gone the distance involved the New Zealand Breakers.Corey Webster was listed in the piece last week as MIA. Fair to say he showed up in Round 6, scoring 37 points during his two outings and hitting the game-winning shot against Perth Wildcats.Melbourne United, meanwhile, continued their slide with a fifth consecutive loss. They parted ways with former MVP point guard Cedric Jackson through the week, and United fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Chris Goulding and debut of new signing Casper Ware.We have become accustomed to having at least one high-scoring game during each round, but we had a different story in Round 6. The highest score was 87, while each winning team posted between 84 and 87 points. So who and what stood out the most during round six?Dynamic DuosEvery side needs a go-to player they can rely upon, but teams become increasingly easy to defend against if they have only the one option. The presence of a one-two punch can make life miserable for defending teams, and we saw two instances during round six.Brisbanes Torrey Craig and Jermaine Beal took over against Sydney Kings in the round-opening game, compiling 34 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Kings had no answers as the Bullets waltzed away with the win. Then it was the Kings turn in their second match of the round, against Melbourne United, with backcourt buddies Kevin Lisch and Jason Cadee shooting the lights out to post a combined 56 points on 70 percent shooting that included a remarkable 10 three-pointers.Speaking of lights out ...Black OutBrisbane and Cairns Taipans are locked in a tense battle, both seeking their second win of the round; the Bullets lead by eight points with 1:37 to play in the fourth quarter and, BAM, the lights go out.The Bullets had controlled the tempo of the game, but the Taipans were still in with a shot when the contest was abandoned because the power could not be restored.Victory was awarded to the Bullets, but the Taipans have lodged a formal protest and the outcome of the game is yet to be confirmed.Running Out of LegsFour of the six victors also led at halftime and three-quartertime.Adelaide and New Zealand went against that trend, leading at the end of every quarter apart from when it really counted.New Zealand led the Taipans by three at the final change before they surrendered the lead with around nine minutes to play, and they were never able to make it back.Adelaide led Illawarra Hawks by two heading into the fourth, before scoring a measly 11 points down the stretch to lose by double-figures.No I in HawksThe Hawks have one of the top-three scoring averages in the league, and they do so with an incredible balance. The Hawks have only three players averaging double-figure points per game (every other team in the league has four, with Melbourne having five) but theyre currently riding a two-game winning streak. The unselfishness within the group, and the willingness to find the open man, is beginning to pay dividends as they have assisted on 65 percent of made baskets in their past two games. We might be seeing the Hawks finding their wings and getting ready for take off.Gazey CamAndrew Gaze is an iconic figure in the NBL. He is one of, if not, the greatest players ever to grace the Australian hardwood, and his star continues to shine. The passion he used to exude on the floor has now shifted to the sidelines, and his antics have not gone unnoticed. The league needs to consider a Gazey Cam as watching him during the game can be just as exciting as following the play that is unfolding. This little clip is just one snippet from the weekend action; bear in mind the Kings won this game comfortably.? Cincinnati Reds Store .Y. -- Sabres forward Drew Stafford has witnessed plenty of turmoil during his eight seasons in Buffalo.CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Mark Sanchez is getting the first chance to start. Locked in a tightly contested quarterback competition with rookie Geno Smith, Sanchez got the nod on Tuesday to be under centre for the New York Jets in their preseason opener Friday night at Detroit. "Certainly, hes the incumbent," coach Rex Ryan said of Sanchez. "The competition starts off and well see how it goes from here, but it seemed like the natural thing to do." Offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg took it a step further, saying there was one clear factor in choosing Sanchez. "The first thing is, hes earned it," he said. "Hes had an outstanding training camp. The second thing is, hes been the starter here and the first game would typically be his, and hes earned it as well. Those things kind of go together." Smith, the teams second-round pick, will also get some snaps with the first-team offence against the Lions, but Ryan and Mornhinweg hadnt determined exactly how the playing time would be distributed. "Mark, this is his game," Mornhinweg said. "Hell start and go with the 1s and then we certainly would like to get Geno in just a little bit with the 1s and then hell take the 2s and well progress from there." Normally in preseason openers, starters rarely play more than two possessions. Both Ryan and Mornhinweg said there is a chance the starters could play a bit longer than usual, given the circumstances. "Well put our 1s out and well play it," Ryan said. "The preseason doesnt end after this first preseason game. Well take it through as much as possible. We said this was going to be an equal competition, and it is going to be a competition and thats exactly what it is." Sanchez, entering his fifth season, and Smith have been rotating practice days with the starters, usually switching up on every third day. Ryan had mentioned Monday that he could change up that rotation by having Smith work with the starters Tuesday, but instead kept Sanchez with the first-team offence. "Really, weve been going every two days," Ryan said, "so well kind of stay with tthat same kind of rhythm and then both guys will play in the game.dddddddddddd" For a second straight day, Sanchez was very solid. He was accurate, going 4 for 6 in team drills and zipping some long tosses to receivers in one-on-one drills. Meanwhile, Smith threw his first interception this summer -- working with the second-team offence -- in 11-on-11 team drills, getting picked off by Ellis Lankster after going nine-plus practices, including the scrimmage, without one. He finished 2 of 5 in team drills. "Geno had a terrific start to the camp," Mornhinweg said. "He has dipped just a little bit, and he has to recover. Well see how he rebounds." Ryan is eager to see how both Sanchez and Smith handle Detroits pass rush, especially with protecting the football a major point of emphasis this summer. "Thatll be a good test," Ryan said. "No question about it." ------ NOTES: Despite the Jets using CB Antonio Cromartie on kickoffs at times in practice, Ryan said that wont happen in preseason or regular-season games unless "you need to win a game." As the No. 1 cornerback, Cromartie is one of the teams most indispensable players. "Theres no way were going to use Cro back there," Ryan said. "Weve got some good returners." Ryan said hes always reminded of Jason Sehorn, a former standout defensive back for the Giants who tore his ACL and MCL in a knee while returning a kickoff in a preseason game against the Jets in 1997 and was never the same. ... WR Vidal Hazelton injured his right leg, but Ryan was not sure of the severity. He got tangled up with a cornerback in drills and went down in heap before being checked out by trainers and getting help off the field. Hazelton, who spent last season on Tennessees practice squad, has been an early standout in camp. ...
