Former West Coast defender Mitch Brown says he couldnt help but feel lost after failing to find a new AFL home, but hes made peace with the outcome and doesnt hold any regrets.Brown turned down a contract extension at the Eagles in a bid to find a new AFL club in Melbourne, where his netballer wife Shae had moved. But Browns AFL dream came to a crushing end after being overlooked in the national, rookie and pre-season drafts.Aged just 27 and with 94 games under his belt, Brown felt he had plenty more to give on the AFL stage. But the 195cm veteran is weighing up whether to continue his football career at a lower level, or embark on a different profession.Brown revealed he didnt even listen to Mondays rookie draft.Instead, he caught a train in Melbourne just for fun, before his manager called to deliver the bad news that hed been overlooked. Its been a total mind explosion, Brown told EON Sports Radio.I sort of made peace with it all. But it did hit home a little bit.Since then, my phone has been flat out from country teams. Theres been some towns Ive never heard of before wanting my services next year.I really dont know whether I want to play footy.Brown was snared by the Eagles as a 17-year-old with pick No.16 in the 2006 national draft. He said being cut loose from the AFL system had been a weird experience, especially after spending all of his adult life there.Theres been guys who have played 10, 15 years at the Eagles ... and theyre 100 per cent set for life after footy, Brown said. But they still go through this period of six or 12 months where they have this loss of identity. It nearly happens to everyone, because we follow this schedule for so long.We literally get a piece of paper that tells you you have to be here, here and here - for 10 years.Suddenly, you wake up and say, What do I do?.Brown praised the AFL Players Association for making sure axed or retired players werent cast entirely into the wilderness after their career. But he felt more improvements could be made.It does take a lot of courage to ask for help and be vulnerable, Brown said.Because for all your career, you get built up by the fans as this hero, and you can do literally anything. So you finish your career and go, I actually need some help.Brown described himself as a hopeless romantic, and he fully supported wife Shaes decision to join Collingwood in Australias new Super Netball competition, which starts in February. SPIELBERG, Austria -- Having won two years in a row in the verdant Austrian hills, and coming off a victory in the maiden Formula One street race in Azerbaijan, Nico Rosberg is naturally confident about the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.Rosberg has increased his championship lead over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton again after the win in Baku, and could join Alain Prost as a three-time Austria winner. To have two wins from two races at any track is pretty special, so if I could make it three in three that would be awesome, Rosberg said. That was a good weekend for me, he said of the race in Baku. I really felt at one with the car, so thats a big positive looking ahead to the next races. Austria has been a real strength for us as a team in the past two years. Our Silver Arrow is still definitely the best package on the grid, and I cant wait to see what it can do in Spielberg.Another win would leave defending champion Hamilton with a huge deficit. Rosberg already leads by 24 points, and another 25 points for the victory in Austria would send Rosberg closer to his first title, considering the supremacy the Mercedes cars have enjoyed in the last few seasons.Hamilton, who finished behind Rosberg in the two previous Austrian races, was fifth in Baku, after crashing in qualifying and experiencing engine problems.Ive put it behind, Hamilton said.Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says the team has to get rid of small mistakes that have cost points here and there.ddddddddddddForce India has been very strong recently, Williams are always quick in Spielberg and, of course, there is the constant threat from Ferrari and Red Bull, particularly at a home race for the latter. The Austrian GP returned to the schedule in 2014, is held on the Red Bull Ring, and is a home race for the team of the same name. But the relatively short course of only nine curves hasnt yet been a successful track for Red Bull. Its best result was eighth in 2014 and 10th in 2015.Spielberg always has a pretty awesome atmosphere, and the setting is pretty amazing, Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo said. The circuit is quite short but is also fun. I would love a few more corners but it is a fun track for what it is, quite flowing and fast.We havent had the results we would like there in the past but were coming there with our best package yet, so hopefully that can put us up into the top five.Ricciardo has extended his contract with Red Bull until 2018.Teammate Max Verstappen, the surprise winner in Barcelona, wasnt too optimistic. Here in Austria, Mercedes cant be beaten, he said. The weather could be a major factor, with thunderstorms and rain predicted for the weekend and Sundays race.
